Cultural Competency Training of staff is required by NRS 449.103, NRS 449.101, and Nevada State Board of Health regulation R016.20.
The purpose of this training is:
- To eliminate discrimination in the admission of, or the provision of services to a patient or resident based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) status of the patient or resident or any person with whom the patient or resident associates; and
- To improve and enhance patient-provider interaction by creating recognition and understanding how discrimination can magnify barriers and bring harm to a patient.
Ultimately, the desired outcome of the training is to ensure each facility’s ability to provide patient/resident interactions that meet the needs of the individual, resulting in a better patient/resident outcomes.
