Course Overview

This course is designed to assist ALL new or existing State of Nevada, Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), Legislative Council Bureau (LCB), and qualified local Government employees getting close to retirement age to understand what they could and should be thinking about to prepare for retirement age. The presentation gives participants insight of various things they need to consider to make their transition from the accumulation stage of their life into retirement or the preservation phase of their life. This training will help employees understand important decisions and tasks they should be considering when they are 10 years or less away from their retirement date, prepare for the date they retire, and how to continue managing their investment allocations while in retirement.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course you will be able to:

  • Understand how much income replacement you will need when you retire.
  • Understand what your NDC contribution amount should be given your age and number of service years.
  • Understand what you need to be thinking about when you are 10 years, 5 years, 3 years, 1 year, 6 months and 1 month out from your estimated retirement.
  • Understand that you do not have to transfer or cash out your account when you separate service from the State or other qualified government entity.
  • Review the “To roll over or not to roll over? That is the question” worksheet.
  • Understand the current NDC Investment platform and how to manage your account into and through retirement.
  • Managing  your risk tolerance in retirement.

Course Overview

This course is designed to assist ALL new or existing State of Nevada, Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), Legislative Council Bureau (LCB), and qualified local Government employees in understanding the Nevada Public Employees’ Deferred Compensation Program (NDC), a valuable voluntary benefit that has been created to assist  with the supplementation of an employee’s Defined Benefit Pension through Nevada PERS, Social Security, or other Defined Contribution Retirement program.

This training will help employees understand the basics of the NDC Program from setting up their account, managing their contributions to the account, and managing their investment allocations while in the accumulation phase of the employee’s career.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course you will be able to:

  1. Understand the tax advantages and benefits of contributing to the Nevada Deferred Compensation(NDC) Program.
  2. Understand how to set-up and actively manage your NDC account.
  3. Recognize and understand the contribution and deferral limits within the NDC Program.
  4. Understand the amount you should be contributing to your NDC Program given your age, number of years of service, and other pre-taxed defined contributions you may have accumulated
  5. Understand the distribution options of your NDC Account, and that you can actively manage your account into retirement, taking advantage of the institutional pricing and benefits of being part of a 700 Million dollar program affords.
  6. Recognize resources that the NDC Program has available to assist you with managing your NDC Account.
