The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (AKA: Motor Voter Act) requires various state and federal agencies make voter registration simple, quick and more accessible. This Act specifically names the DMV as a voter registration agency and our employees have the responsibility to process the applications in a simple, accurate and timely manner. Because voting is a political and national topic, the DMV cannot afford to make a mistake that could hinder an individual’s right to vote.
The Act prohibits the DMV from requiring an applicant to duplicate information currently collected, such as name, DOB, and address.
NAC 293.4105 (2) (A) states any employee designated to be responsible for providing oversight and directions, as necessary, to ensure that the voter registration agency is in compliance with the provisions of 52 U.S.C. §§ 20502 et seq. shall conduct training programs once every 6 months to familiarize the employees of the voter registration agency with the required procedures for registering voters through the voter registration agency.
The Automatic Voter Registration Training will suffice as an initial training along with meeting the 6-month training requirements as a refresher training.
